Hypocrispy? Some might like it under cooked and rubbery. Not me. I like my bacon well done. Stop up to the Ruston Inn and get some pancakes and crispy bacon. Might friendly too.

She leaves a community finally better for her absence. So long, Karen, you've done your damage well, but we will survive.

Karen or Beth should apply. They have already shown the ability to make poor choices and they are disliked by a majority of the town all ready, which puts them two steps ahead of all other applicants. The position doesn’t require a lot of intelligence, and Beth would not have a problem passing Karen unredacted documents for her Free Ruston site. Also, if Beth was employed by the Town, she wouldn’t have to worry about Don loosing his benefits when the town government shuts down the fire department and Don gets laid off. We all know the Torbet’s need financial help. Anybody that drives by The Market knows the place is always empty, all their regular customers have passed away, left or are sick of the poor customer service, and Bruce, Fred and the volunteer fire fighters can’t keep the Rusted Market solvent alone. But that being said, Karen can use the job just as bad. She’s not successful as a journalist and her ASARCO gig can’t pay much. As a gift to many of us, Beth and Karen should fight to the death for the position of Town Clerk.

In a word Karen was not professional. She did not give consistently courteous service to everyone across the board, which is a basic skill and behavior of a public servant, regardless of whether the customer is sweet or grouchy. She did not train her successor nor did she take it upon herself, as a professional office manager should, to do everything she could to see that the operation would continue to run smoothly after her departure. She did not behave in a professional manner regarding her superiors when she disagreed with them. There are people who overheard her say to other employees at council meetings and in the Town Hall what a dodo whoever the current mayor was. (That's not the real word she would use.) And she made errors with budget preparation and monitoring that were embarrassing to the mayor and council because she didn't review her work with the mayor before a meeting. The result was that the mayor or council members had to point them out publicly in order to move on with the budget items on the agenda.
She may have a heart of gold, but it didn't matter because her negative behavior is what most of us remember; and her job skills were mostly absent. Just my opinion.

Sad to see that some folks can't let a grudge go... I do hope the town's leaders are able to find the right person to fill the clerk-treasurer position. Just to clarify, I have nothing to do with this Free Ruston web site. I transfer comments here from the Ruston Home blog that I cannot verify or know to be as accurate or that are not civil, making comments just like everyone else.

I know Karen, and I have spoken with her about her departure. Her plans were made a LONG time ago and this was not a move she made on a whim. So, that being said, i agree she had no obligation to stay, BUT, if she loves the town as much as you report, she should have consoled with the Mayor a long time ago, so she could train her replacement and NOT leave us short handed. It seems to me Karen, you get a little lost in the sentiments of the moment and neglect to report the facts. Please, stop covering up for the short comings of the people you think need your protection, and report on the facts. If you are going to be the person this town looks too for the facts, please stick them and ask the hard questions even though it may be difficult. Fact is, Karen left us high and dry. And it seems as though that WAS her plan.

"The Town gets what the Town deserves. Now we'll really see what management is made of. Lets see $17-$21 per hour, no dependent benefits, and a college degree LOL" The town pays for what it gets, just look at our Fire Chief. He has no problem with his paycheck, and he was recently unable to provide aid to and elderly woman when she was injured recently, and his crack fire fighters know how to hook upto the non working training hydrant when there is a real fire. I can go on...... Oh, I take it back, I bet he wants a raise? Oh, and lets not forget that great police chief we had. Rumor has it he was just paid a large sum of money for keeping the Casino safe and the Unicorn quiet.

And the town paid for that? Hot d**n, how do we get paid big sums for keeping the casino safe and the Unicorn quiet? Who's next in line - now serving number 5!

It's amazing how you can say things against public service. The Fire Chief and Police Chief are doing their job, just because YOU don't like them, bet you'd like them if you needed them. Carma is alive and well, remember that!
