Don Knotts...love it! I used to have a friend who lived in UP who'd pick me up from Ruston and made the comment that it was like being back in the 50's or Mayberry. This was late 70's/early 80's.
I have sooo many memories of Ruston, I'll have to restrain myself to a couple for now. I remember they painted all the fire hydrants like patriot soldiers for the Bicentennial. I also remember the town of Ruston would play Easter Bunny and leave treats on the front lawns for homes with children, and it was good stuff like chocolate bunnies and eggs, not those old Peeps!
I haaaated my house there (not the town--loved that!), and I'm convinced it is still the absolute bottom of the pit of housing there to this day (that monstrosity of a triplex on Highland of 51st). I thought Madness recorded their song, "Our House (in the middle of our street)", with our home specifically in mind actually.
Next topic to come: the children of Ruston and our sometimes sneaky escapades....
